Why You Should Drink More Water

Water is essential in order to stay hydrated and every cell in your body is dependant on water for survival. Drinking water allows your body to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. Drinking water offers many benefits such as: maintains the balance of body fluids, helps control calories, energizes muscles, keeps your skin looking good, helps your kidneys stay healthy, and maintains normal bowel function. Drinking the proper amount of water may also help reduce headaches and feelings of fatigue.

Different Water Needs

Different people need different amounts of water to stay hydrated. Some people that are at higher risk for dehydration include, people who exercise at high intensity/athletes, those with certain medial conditions or ones that are sick, pregnant or breast-feeding women, and those trying to lose weight. If you are ever unsure if you are hydrated or not, a good way to tell is to check the colour of your urine. If your urine is colourless/transparent or light yellow, you are properly hydrated. Although, if your urine is a bright or dark yellow, you may possibly be dehydrated.

How You Can Stay Hydrated

Always carry a bottle of water with you throughout the day. Keep it attached to you the same way you would keep your smartphone attached to you! If you get bored of the taste of plain water, try adding a slice of lemon or lime to sweeten things up. Fruits and vegetables have high water content, so if you’re struggling to reach your recommended amount of water per day, add plenty fruits and veggies to your diet to help reach this goal. Sometimes thirst is confused hunger, so if you’re feeling hungry, before you eat, try having a glass of water. If you feel satisfied you were probably dehydrated, and if you are not satisfied than start cooking your favorite meal, because it was probably hunger!

Lemon Water

It is important to always stay hydrated and drink water – not only when you start feeling symptoms of dehydration!
